I'm a political person at heart and it's hard for me to enjoy "companies". I don't trust them, I don't like capitalism and I don't want to reward monopolization with my consumption. So when I came across Culture Hustle I was both elated and wary. They represent a lot of the ideals I follow, but it's easy for a company to market themselves as left wing while really being about the cash. One day I was browsing the Culture Hustle website for art materials and having a fan boy moment cause I love the whole "liberated color" political ethos of their work and I cam across something I had never in my life seen before. A company who sold something cool, who were asking their customers to get involved with a project that benefitted their community, at no cost or leverage. Just an advert saying, start an art club and we'll send you materials. If I needed proof that Culture Hustle were very much about the liberation of creativity and inclusivity as a tool for change, this was it. I'm not good at following opportunity, I have mental health issues that limit my ability to feel included but I knew I had to apply and within days I had a reply inviting me to open my own Art Club, promising they would send me materials and promo material to get it all running. They've so far sent thousands of pounds worth of amazing paints for us to try out at our events and supported us endlessly through the creation of our humble club.
